About this tool
Most name generators draw from a fixed pool, which is why the results feel familiar and why the good ones are gone. These are constructed from words you supply, using the patterns real product names actually follow: a suffix, a prefix, a clipped stem, or two words blended.
- Clipped forms are where the better names come from. Taking the first sixty per cent of a word and adding a suffix produces something pronounceable that is not simply the word plus "ly".
- Blends need at least two seed words. The first half of one and the second half of another is how a surprising number of real products got named.
- Availability is not checked. Each name links to a registrar search so you can look; we take nothing if you register one.
- Say it out loud before you commit. A name you have to spell over a call costs you something every time.
Questions
- What makes a good product name?
- Short, sayable, and spellable after hearing it once. Meaning matters less than most people expect — plenty of well-known products have names that meant nothing until the product did.
- Should I get the .com?
- It still helps, and it is no longer essential. Plenty of products run on .io, .dev or .app. What matters more is that nobody established already owns the name.
- Do you check whether the name is available?
- No. That needs a registrar lookup, and doing it for every generated name would mean a paid API. Each name links out to a search instead.
